From Paul Pacult , Spirit Journal- Best of 2002 , -December 2002
Pale amber/dusty yellow color-- good purity; the initial nosings immediately pick up the sweetly fragrant aromas of vanilla bean and brown sugar-- exposure to air over another 5 minutes sees the aroma turn slightly deeper as more profound scents of marzipan, light toffee and chocolate cake frosting make for intriguing and delightful sniffing; the palate entry is toasty, mildly sweet and medium-weighted-- the mid palate goes much sweeter as tastes of sugar cookies, brown sugar, honey and vanilla bean combine beautifully; the aftertaste is long, more bittersweet than sweet and elegant; a classy extra old rum that's long on balance and stately presence in the mouth; bravo, great job here. SJ rating- ****Highly Recommended"www.spiritjournal.com

Canne Royale Extra Old Rum (80-Proof). Gentle amber color with soothing traces of gold. The aroma, once allowed to fully develop in the snifter, speaks of wholesome cane juice and careful aging.
Having teased the nose enough, the rum unmasks itself in the palate, revealing intricately woven patterns ranging from fruity sugar to mild oak. The finish is smooth with just a hint of sweetness, leaving you wanting more. An excellent sipping and mixing rum from Grenada which deserves a place in every serious rum-drinker's liquor cabinet.
