What we need is honest, trustworthy...Leadership! This article was meant as a joke, right? I've been here over 36 years and downtown, no matter how much money was thrown at it, never gets above...sleezy status. No one who actually lives here wants to go there, nothing to offer but bums bumming money. IKEA? You're kidding right? Most can't afford their mortgage payment, but hey!, perhaps I'll have great furniture at my moving yard sale...at a fraction of the cost of what I paid for it, yea, that's a smart move. An NFL team...hum, this city is dying and we want to invest more 'good' money after bad...sure, makes sense, IF you can pry people away from the penny machines or reach even deeper into their pockets for money NV Energy hasn't already squeezed out of customers. But seriously, can you write/print an article that truly identifies what LV really needs and stop with the BS. This city needs a lot and it would behoove the oh-so-wonderful Sun to print useful articles instead of this crap.

These are all great ideas but Las Vegas is NOT Boston and never will be...I can see it now...a desert greenline train full of bums, gangsta wannabes, and no speaka's...Harvard square is great but who will end up staffing the Las Vegas one? More non proper english speakers and white trash??? Vegas is a dung heap....saying it could ever compare or come close to Boston is an insult to Bostonians everywhere....but hey, great ideas...they just wont work in this city...Vegas=dumbest city in country Boston=one of the most educated cities in the world...Vegas has no foundation from which to build on..

Las Vegas is only here because of gambling, alcohol and unbridled entertainment. If we are not doing things to propagate these three things then we are on the wrong path for Vegas. Everyone that gets into power or in office in the Nevada system tries to change Las Vegas, tries to make Las Vegas a city like the rest of the country. Las Vegas is being destroyed by progressive thinking futurists wanting to have a place for families, new corporate ventures and morality. This is not that place and it never will be. We need an IKEA like a hole in the head. Isn't there already way way way too many stores here that sell pretentious crap? We do not need an NFL team or another Town Square. These might be fun things for the staff to kick around down at the Sun but these ideas will not do anything for Las Vegas except make a few people happy. Las Vegas is dying. There are too many empty houses here. There are too many criminals here. It costs me 500 dollars a month minimum in the summer to cool my house and water is even more expensive, a lot more. We have a huge infrastructure of people that make this town work everyday and we cannot afford to live here. We put up with the heat, the greed of local utilities, tourists, crime and traffic at monumental levels. We should only be focusing on the things that make Las Vegas more Vegas'y. We need to keep smoking in the casinos, offering free drinks to gamblers again and let the monorail go through to the airport and downtown. We need to fix the casino properties on the strip that are dark and half built, this includes all the strip clubs that have been put out of business by local morality tenders. Our city looks like a war zone, half finished buildings and empty houses cannot be fixed by income from a mob museum, a ferris wheel and a fast train to Victorville. We need to start thinking like the people that created this city. We need to have a new take on all the old things that make Vegas fun. If I had a vacation coming and I lived in lets say, Omaha and I heard there were night clubs in Vegas charging $100.00 to get in the door and $600.00 for a bottle of Vodka I would be on a plane in a second...to any where else. This town will not work as any other town. Other than the drinking and sex and gambling Las Vegas has literally nothing else to offer and we really shouldn't. Everything was moving along fine and then corporate America came in and put the kibosh on everything that made Vegas what it was born to be, fun. Since gaming is offered all over the country and the world now we need to step up and be even more aggressive in the debauchery dept.
