Three injured Thursday in four-vehicle accident north of Everett

Three people were injured in a four-vehicle accident Thursday morning on Highway 9 near the intersection of Highway 2 north of Everett.

A Volkswagen, an SUV and a pickup truck were northbound on Highway 9 about 10 a.m. All the vehicles slowed because of traffic, according to the Washington State Patrol. The SUV struck the back of the pickup, pushing it into the Volkswagen.

The SUV then went into the southbound lane, where it struck a dump truck carrying a trailer and the truck jackknifed, blocking the highway.

The SUV driver sustained serious head injuries and was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett. The drivers of the pickup and Volkswagen sustained minor injuries, said the state patrol. The dump truck driver was not injured.

The state patrol is still investigating the accident, but said the driver of the SUV was not wearing a seat belt.

The accident closed the road for about three hours, backing up traffic.
