Duff family helps Jannettes with garage sale, donation

Actress and singer Hilary Duff recently donated $2,000 to South Houston High's dance team, the Jannettes.

Duff's mother, Susan, a 1971 South Houston graduate and former Jannette, worked with the team to help raise funds during its garage sale on June 18. After the sale, Hilary Duff surprised the girls by pledging a $2,000 matching donation to the team's coffers. The team needed to raise at least $3,500 to attend ShowMakers Dance Camp at Blinn College in Brenham, Texas.

Jannettes director Saranya Taylor expressed the community’s sincere thanks for the Duffs' work and generosity during the fundraiser.

Susan Duff said she was happy to fly in from Los Angeles to donate time and Hilary Duff’s personal items; an autographed jacket and shoes raised $300 for the sale.

"I'm delighted to be able to help these girls," Susan Duff said in the press release. "They deserve the full support of the school, the community and our alumni. We're going to look for other ways we can help these girls every year."

The Jannettes will hold a summer fundraiser in August.
