LAKE FENTON, Michigan — Lake Fenton’s West Shore Elementary got a $6,000 makeover Thursday morning.

About 75 employees and volunteers from Home Depot fixed up the elementary school Thursday. The project was part of a $6,000 grant the school received from the store.

“All of us really want to extend a heartfelt appreciation,” said Principal Sonya Shaughnessy, as volunteers planted shrubs and put in mulch in front of the building.

The school saw a shed rebuilt, five picnic tables and four benches installed, new handicap parking signs put in place, brick put in as part of the landscaping and raised planting beds put in for classes to plant vegetables and flowers.

Because of the today’s rainfall, some of the work like painting doors, will be completed later.

Shaughnessy said there’s already talk of using the raised beds this summer as part of the school’s Kids Klub.

Lynn Paullin, Team Depot captain for Home Depot’s Fenton store, said the rain didn’t stop volunteers as they continued through it.

@chicagolandhobby You have a good point, the chain was indeed loose, however it is still louder. I agree, that Chamberlain has a reverse improperly set. What was frighting though is that the installer didn’t set it right, so it made the Chamberlain very dangerous. The setting as it was didn’t reverse at all no matter how much force we took to push back. The AVANTI however learns automatically so no adjustment needed. Thanks for posting.

You can’t say that this was an accurate comparison. The chain on the chamberlain was way too loose on the opener, so it was hitting the door during operation. Also, Chamberlain DOES have a safety reversal feature, actually, two. The force on your chamberlain was improperly set. Don’t try to tell me otherwise, I have a chamberlain unit and can prove this if asked.

Hello there! Please excuse sms373. He has a habit of voicing his opinion where it’s not needed. This opener is very intriguing, and quiet… It looks a lot like a Sommer. Note, that not all Chamberlain openers are that loud.. That unit was a retail economy version, and the chain was very loose. Also, the uninsulated door doesn’t help to much with the noise factor. But, over all, this opener is very cool! Thanks for posting!

Why in the hell would I want that avanti piece of garbage in my garage? Because I gurantee a liftmaster(made by chamberlain) is much more safe then the avanti and I bet you that liftmaster makes a quieter opener and I gurantee you that a liftmaster would last a whole lot longer and I gurante you that 20 years from now you will still be able to get parts fro the liftmaster hows that for better!
