Gaga's 'Born' out of hype
Lady Gaga promised “the greatest album of this decade” with her latest release, Born This Way .
Did she deliver?
Let’s just say that she’s done well enough that her infamous meat dress can be put on our mind’s back-burner for now.
A grand appetizer of self-empowerment anthems kick things off with “Marry the Night” and the title track. The frantic “Judas” features some of the most daring lyrics that have been heard on commercial radio this year.
Born does live up to some of its pre-release hype with terrific tracks such as the delicious “Government Hooker,” the exotic “Americano,” in which Gaga sings mostly in very beautiful Spanish. “Bad Kids” is reminiscent of Blondie’s best songs and “The Edge of Glory” is easily the best out of the three singles released so far from the album and features the late Clarence Clemons on saxophone.
“You and I,” which is a highlight of Gaga’s live performances, features Queen guitarist Brian May on guitar. It proves not only that she can pull off a rock ballad, but that also she can belt out a song without sounding like she’s straining herself.
Unfortunately, Born , at 14 tracks, begins to feel like Gaga herself keeps jumping in front of you as you’re trying to leave her party. “Hair” is yet another anthem of self-acceptance with another appearance by Clemons. “Electric Chapel,” once again, reminds us that you were “Born This Way.” Then there’s “Scheibe,” in which GaGa shows she’s multilingual by singing in German and little else.
If Gaga kept Born at 10 tracks, then it may have been a classic. She would’ve had the perfect bookends with “Marry” and “You” because it would’ve been the perfect balance between dance pop and rock that may have been her original vision. Instead, there’s a feeling of self-indulgence on her part that’s hard to shake-off.
Lady Gaga is a talented artist. She seems to have figured out how to keep the media’s focus on her. The question is, how long can she keep it up? Perhaps, when the press focuses their attention on another artist, then she’ll create a true masterpiece.

(If memory serves, ARTISTdirect.com was the first online site to play this Lady Gaga video, because no one else would – the first! – Ed.) This was never a single from The Fame Monster, but with its wry lyrics and catchy chorus, it could have been.

You may remember Heatworld readers, when Lady Gaga first stepped onto the scene with her number 1 hit Just Dance, rumours began to circulate about whether she was in actual fact a Lady, or had her own set of GaGa's. Eminem (quite slow on the gossip

After sweepingly addressing a few categories of discrimination, the lyrics fail to commit. Born This Way is almost what dedicated Lady Gaga fans might want, but is unfortunately a little less. It contains the same catchy style of dance beats that will
The Google Chrome commercial captures so much more of the mood of this song than the official video did - I was just really disappointed. Do this stuff with another song, like maybe even more of a ballad, but not an upbeat dance track. Points to Gaga
